Tucked away in one of the shophouses along Cantonment Road, we found this modest cafe – The Mayor of Tiny Town Cafe (MOTT). We first came to notice this humble cafe one working morning while waiting for the traffic light to turn green in order to cross over to the Outram Park MRT station, located directly opposite the cafe.
We decided to visit this cafe one Saturday morning for brunch.
MOTT is a simple yet homey cafe. The interior of the cafe is Japanese Zakka style inspired. It is decorated with unique and tiny ornaments carefully handpicked by the owner, who was an ex SIA air-stewardess, from all over the world during her jetsetting days.
Not knowing what’s their specialties but since we were craving for some English breakfast, we ordered one of their recommended items on the menu – MOTT breakfast ($15.90).
The MOTT breakfast is made up of a sunny side up, crispy bacon, ham, sausage, roasted tomato, sauteed mushrooms with herbs, spinach and waffles. A very typical breakfast dish with nothing much to shout about until… we tasted the waffles! Undeniably, the waffles were really great and impressive! The golden brown waffles are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It is tasty even eaten alone without any toppings! No wonder that they have replaced the commonly used toasts for breakfast set with their signature waffles!
Only until then that we realized their specialty is simply their waffles! MOTT offers a wide selection of freshly baked sweet or savory waffles. We will definitely come back again to try out more waffles dishes!
Other than that, we also pampered ourselves some freshly brewed teas. We had a glass of iced-nectarine tea ($3.90) and a cup of Hanami Gryphon Artisan Hot Tea ($.390).
This black tea with a hint of peach is very refreshing at first sip with a nice sweet peach lingering aftertaste. The sugar level is adjustable at personal preference. Simply love the flavor of this tea!
On the other hand, Hanami is a Japanese sencha with cherry blossoms flavored tea. The sakura flavour is subtle but complimentary. It’s a bitter sweet experience. Definitely worth a try.
Other than the all day brunch and waffles, MOTT also serves some pretty unique mains and desserts like Blue Salmon and Mayor’s Mischief! Can’t wait to try out these dishes during our next visit.

Hong Kong Honeymoon Dessert Group (满记甜品) established its first shop in Sai Kung District of Hong Kong in 1995, it has developed into a renowned dessert chainstore from a home-style dessert shop. They ventured their business into the Singapore market in 2010 and has since attracted the local crowd at its local outlets. We took a pitstop at their VivoCity’s outlet during the weekend for our quick dessert fix after dinner. We found out that there were more than 100 selections on the menu!
鲜杂果凉粉(芒汁) Mixed Fruits Grass Jelly with Mango Juice ($6.50)
The mixed fruits consisted of watermelon, kiwi, mango, papaya and sea coconut which went very well with the strong aromatic mango juice. The grass jelly on the other hand gave a very refreshing feeling in contrast to the aromatic which come from the thick version of mango juice. I wouldn’t say this is the best I’ve had but it will definitely be of a decent quality!
榴莲斑戟 Durian Pancake ($4.80)
Durian Pancake is Honeymoon Dessert’s signature and a must-try. This dessert is stuffed with real durian flesh and low-fat soft fluffy whipped cream wrapped in a thin green layer of crepe. It was so delicious and irresistible that once you tried it, you’ll crave for more in future. Before we started eating the desert we also cut it into half to have a closer look at the filling.

As we have had quite a heavy dinner earlier, we didn’t manage to order more to try. The bill came at a total of $11.30 for the 2 desserts that we ordered which is quite reasonable. We will definitely visit this place to try out their other desserts in the future.

Wild Honey has been yet another one of the talk of town for ages, and of course we wouldn’t want to give this all-day breakfast cafe, located on the third floor of Mandarin Gallery, a miss.
It was packed when we arrived but it was all expected from the reviews that we read. As the place runs a no-reservation policy, we left our names and phone numbers on the waiting list. It took us more than an hour to get a seat! *tummy growling*
The interior of the cafe is somehow lovely and homely. Its cozy with its dim lighting, vintage-styled plump cushions and music playing in the background. It was definitely perfect for a lazy Saturday afternoon!
Unlike other cafes, ordering at Wild Honey is done at the counter before we head to our table. Everything was nicely written on the chalkboard. Colorful and neat. If you are unsure, there is an iPad with photographs to help you with your choice. Talking about variety, Wild Honey is by far, one of the breakfast places that offers the most extensive breakfast choices from all over the globe. You can choose from Canadian, English, Persian, Aussie to Japanese! I’m sure there’s one which can please your taste bud!
We started with the safest ones, their signatures – Europeans and Tunisian.
I had the Tunisian breakfast with a glass of orange juice ($9). This sizzling pan of spicy tomato stew with onion, pepper and chilli was served with two sunny side ups, chorizo sausages, toasted brioche and Israel salad (made with cucumber and tomato cubes). I must highlight that the two sunny side ups were perfect! They literally exploded when you poked into them. The whole thing went simply well with the fluffy brioche.
My breakfast partner, on the other hand, ordered the European breakfast – Wild Honey’s version of Eggs Benedict, paired with a cup of hot latte ($6). The Eggs Benedict was made with two poached eggs wrapped in thinly sliced and uncooked prosciutto (Italian ham) and sautéed mushrooms on their signature sweet and slightly toasted brioche, topped with hollandaise sauce. Although I don’t really like raw meat, the use of parma ham instead of normal ham has definitely added a nice twist to the dish for many! However, the poached eggs were quite a disappointment. It was a little bit past runny. As much as I love the mushrooms, I would still think that roasted button mushrooms would have been a better combination than sliced Shiitake!
Overall, while Wild Honey serves a pretty refreshing and extensive range of breakfasts, I personally find that it still lack some kind of wow effect. It was mediocre. With the price (more on the higher end), I would think that there are plenty of better breakfast/brunch places out there! With more and more breakfast places popping up, it’s hard to find a good reason to go back to Wild Honey!
